WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark University men's basketball sophomore Boluwasefe John was named to the d3hoops.com Team of the Week as announced on Tuesday.

This marks John's first d3hoops.com accolade and he is the fourth Cougar in program history to receive this honor. Bruce Saintilus, Joe Atkinson, and Mark Alexander are the other three in program history to earn the accolade.

The sophomore has also earned two NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Weeks and an Offensive Athlete of the Week accolade this season.

"Congratulations to Shay for this well-deserved national recognition," said head coach Tyler Simms. "Shay has worked extremely hard and it has shown with his play last week, and so far this season. He helps our team on immensely on both ends of the floor - being a huge impact guarding 1 through 5 defensively, and his ability to pass, rebound and score on offense. As always, these are team awards as well that reflect the success we've had so far this season and Shay's teammates abilities to help put him in a successful position."

John (Corona, N.Y.) led the team with an average of 20.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 blocks, and 2.0 steals in two games played this week. In a 74-68 victory over Brandeis, John scored 18 points, grabbed five rebounds, and blocked two shots, while connecting on eight free throws. In Saturday's game against Nichols, John posted a double-double with a career-high 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while tallying five assists, four steals, two blocks, and made nine free throws. 

On the season, John is averaging 14.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and 1.7 assists per game, while shooting 62.5 percent from the floor and has made 32 free throws. He has reached in double-figures in six of seven games played and tallied at least two blocks five times. The Cougars will open NEWMAC play on Wednesday night when they welcome MIT to the Kneller for a contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
