Battle Earns NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – Clark University women's lacrosse senior Annie Battle was named NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.

This is Battle's first NEWMAC weekly accolade and is the second Cougar this season to receive a conference honor as fellow senior Erin Lucas earned Offensive Athlete of the Week.

Battle (Bozeman, Montana) helped guide the Cougars to two NEWMAC victories this week as she tallied 19 saves on a .543 save percentage and 8.00 goals against average. In Wednesday's 12-11 win over Emerson, Battle stopped seven shots and scooped up three ground balls. Battle broke the program record for career saves after tallying 12 saves in Clark's 14-5 victory against Mount Holyoke on Sunday.

On the year, Battle has tallied 100 saves, earned five wins, and scooped up 22 ground balls. The scarlet and white will host their final home game of the season on Wednesday when they welcome Fitchburg State to Granger for a contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
