Babson Park, Mass. - The Babson College field hockey team defeated visiting Clark University by a score of 9-0 on Saturday afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game at MacDowell Field. Sophomore forward Courtney Weaving (New Preston, Conn.) led the way for the Beavers scoring three goals and assisting another. With the win, Babson improves to 8-4 overall, 3-1 in the NEWMAC and Clark falls to 5-4, 2-1 in the NEWMAC.

Weaving put Babson on the board in the 18th minute of play when teammate Kelly Walsh (Gardner, Mass.) fed the ball to Weaving at the top left of the circle where she one-time it in to the lower right corner of the cage. Ten minutes later, the duo combined again for Babsons second goal when Weaving distributed the ball Walsh in front of the cage and she slipped it in giving the Beavers the 2-0 lead entering halftime.

Babson came out even stronger in the second half scoring just 49 seconds in when first-year Danielle Lobo (Santiago, Chile) crossed the ball to the stroke dot where senior co-captain Jess Paladino (Turner, Maine) redirected it in to the cage. The Beavers then went on to score five more goals in the half including a penalty stroke by junior co-captain Colleen Kelly (Milton, Mass.) in the 48th minute.

The Beavers outshot Clark 34-10 and had a 10-5 corner advantage. Weavings three goals and one assist tie her career high seven points and mark her second hat trick of the season. Paladino and Kelly followed with two goals and one assist each.

Junior Sarah Fredlund (New Preston, Conn.)chipped in one goal and one assist along with Walsh. Lobos assist was her first career point. Babson sophomore goalkeeper Jess Pashos (Winchester, Mass.) made four saves in just under 54 minutes of play. Senior Emily Cohen (West Grove, Pa.) finished out the final 16 minutes and did not face a shot.

For Clark, senior Kathryn Dawsey (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) played 58 minutes in goal making 14 saves and first-year goal keeper Emily Baker (Londonderry, N.H.) finished out the game for the Cougars.

The Beavers will continue NEWMAC play on Tuesday evening when they host Wheaton College for a 7pm game at MacDowell Field. Clark will visit Smith College on Monday for a 7pm NEWMAC contest.
