Box Score 2 Winter Haven, Fla. - Behind sophomore hurler
James Wilson (Chatham, N.J.) and a five-hit day
from classmate Mitchell DeLorenzo (Berlin, Conn.),
Clark bounced back from a two losses with a pair of victories over
Northland College (Wis.) by the scores of 8-3 and 11-2 on Monday
afternoon.
Wilson tossed the first complete game of his career in the
nightcap, allowing just two earned runs, while striking out 12 and
yielding just one walk.
After giving up single runs in each of the first two innings,
Wilson found his groove and retired the final 15 batters he faced,
including striking out the side in the sixth and five of the last
six batters of the game.
Northland, meanwhile, used seven different pitchers in the game but
they issued 12 free passes on the day and in the fourth inning,
when Clark took the lead, all three of their runs in the inning
came on bases loaded walks.
The Cougars broke the game open in the sixth when they plated five
runs - three more of which came on bases loaded walks.
In game two, Clark jumped out to a 7-0 lead powered by a leadoff
homerun from Stephen DeMartino (East Haven, Conn.)
and a two-run second inning double.
DeLorenzo added an RBI single in the fifth to wrap up the Cougar
scoring.
On the mound, meanwhile, Brendan Solecki
(Portsmouth, R.I.) tossed a complete game, six-hitter, striking out
ten and walking just one batter.
In addition to DeLorenzo's 3-for-5, three RBI performance in game
two, Ronald Bathrick (North Haven, Conn.),
Phillip DiMarco (Bellingham, Mass.), and DeMartino
all had two hits.
Clark (3-3) is off until Thursday when they face Bridgewater
State.
