Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Babson College got the first two goals of Soozin Kang's (Bordentown, N.J.) career less than a minute apart early in the second half to break open a close game and collect a 4-0 win over Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey action on Tuesday evening.
The win for the Beavers pushes their record to an impressive 9-2 overall and 4-0 in league play, extending their unbeaten streak over the Cougars to nine straight dating back to 2004. Clark, meanwhile, sees its winning streak end at three and now sits at 6-4 overall.
Babson got on the board early when Kelly Walsh (Gardner, Mass.) banged home her tenth goal of the season at 7:08.
That would be all the scoring in the game's first 35 minutes, as both teams failed to capitalize on excellent scoring chances.
The Beavers eventually broke through in the opening moments of the second half when they used some fantastic transition offense. Some excellent passing in the midfield led to a streaking Morgan Lockwood (Agawam, Mass.) feeding a cross to Kang that she snuck past Clark keeper Jordannah Saunders (Scarborough, Maine) for a 2-0 Babson edge.
Moments later off of a penalty corner, Julia Pochini (Acton, Mass.) found Kang open in front of the net for another Babson marker, upping their lead to 3-0.
The last goal came when a Clark defender deflected a shot off of a penalty corner into her own cage with a little less than three minutes left to play.
The Beavers held a 14-8 edge in shots, while the Cougars had a slight advantage (10-9) in penalty corners.
Saunders was strong in goal for Clark despite giving up three goals. She turned back a career-high 11 shots in defeat, while Kayla Florence (Milton, Mass.) was equally as impressive, making eight stops in recording her second consecutive shutout.
Babson, which has now won six straight games, will look to extend their streak on Sunday when they play host to Union College at 1:00 p.m. Clark, meanwhile, will be back in action on Saturday with a road trip to NEWMAC foe Wellesley.
