Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Visiting UMass-Dartmouth score the game's first three goals – including a pair from Victoria Dolce (Jamestown, R.I.) as the Corsairs upended Clark University 4-2 in non-league field hockey action on Thursday evening.
The win for UMD is the sixth in their last seven meetings with the Cougars dating back to the 2005 season.
In addition to Dolce, the Corsairs got two assists from Erica Allan (Amherst, Mass.) and a goal and an assist from Taryn Cardiel (Moorpark, Calif.).
UMD got on the board in the 18th minute when Dolce took a feed from Allan off of a penalty corner and banged the back of the cage for a 1-0 lead.
That lead grew to 2-0 when Jenna Miedzionowski (Beverly, Mass.) set up Cardiel at 30:18 on another penalty corner.
The score stayed that way until midway through the second half when the teams combined to score three goals in an eight minute span.
First was Dolce and Allan teaming up again for Dolce's second marker at 51:32, giving the Corsairs a commanding 3-0 lead.
Clark clawed back as Madeleine Lutts (Salem, Mass.) tipped in a pass from Mel Melkonian (Worcester, Mass.) less than two minutes later.
UMD put any thoughts of a comeback to rest a few minutes later when Cardiel fed Emily Anderson (Medway, Mass.) for her first collegiate score.
The Cougars tacked on an unassisted Lutts tally with a little more than a minute remaining.
UMD controlled play for most of the game, outshooting Clark 17-4 and holding a staggering 21-1 edge in penalty corners.
Jordannah Saunders (Scarborough, Maine) took the loss in goal for the Cougars making a career-best eight saves. Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, Mass.), meanwhile needed to only make two save to collect the win for the Corsairs.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday with Clark traveling up the road to Becker and UMD visiting Westfield State.
