Keene State Pushes Past Clark, 4-1

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. – City native Jessica Berthiaume (Worcester, Mass.) scored two goals, classmate Brittany Boscarino (North Hampton, N.H.) had two assists and visiting Keene State netted a season-best four goals en route to a 4-1 win over Clark University in non-league women's soccer action on Wednesday evening.

With the win the Owls improve to 3-2-1 on the year, while the host Cougars have now dropped three straight contests to slip to 2-4.

Berthiaume wasted little time in getting Keene State on the board, scoring her first of the game when she was left uncontested just outside the box on the left side less than four minutes into the game.

Boscarino handed out her first assist a little more than eight minutes later when Brittany Tolla (Sandy Hook, Conn.) took a pass and registered her first collegiate goal, making the score 2-0.

Clark finally got on the board in the 19th minute when Charlotte Mays (Melrose, Mass.) beat her defender heading towards the goal and was taken down inside the box resulting in a penalty kick. Jenna Zarou (Garden City, N.Y.) converted the attempt, slicing the Owl advantage in half at the 18:58 mark.

The Cougars had an excellent opportunity to knot the game in the 36th minute when Tricia Wise (Providence, R.I.) took a cross but her shot from inside the box sailed just over the crossbar.

Keene State added a goal of their own before the half ended, as Hayley Kenyon (Exeter, N.H.) tapped in a loose ball that the Cougars failed to clear out in front of the net at 40:03.

The only scoring that took place in the second half came off of the foot of Berthiaume, when she slotted a perfect pass from Boscarino into the lower right corner of the net just past the outstretched arms of Clark netminder Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.).

Keene State held a sizable edge in shots (17-6) and a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Cougars will look to snap its current skid when it opens up NEWMAC play on Saturday with a noon home tilt against Smith College. The Owls, meanwhile, will travel to Plymouth State on Saturday as well to begin Little East action against the Panthers.
