Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Babson College continued its best start in more than a decade with a decisive 5-0 win over Clark University in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey action on Saturday afternoon at the Granger Turf Field.
The win for the Beavers pushes their record to 6-0 for the first time since 2003 and they have now not only five straight conference openers but have also won 12 straight over the Cougars dating back to that 2003 season.
For Clark, meanwhile, they have now dropped three straight games and now sit at 2-4 overall.
Babson went ahead early in the contest on a Victoria Spofford unassisted marker off of a penalty corner.
The Beavers then doubled their advantage late in the first half when Staci Swallow (South Portland, Maine) set up Elise Towers (Cicero, N.Y.) at 29:50.
Early in the second half, the Green and White increased their lead when Spofford rattled the back of the cage again, this time with help from Elizabeth Holmes (Southborough, Mass.).
A little more than six minutes later Babson was at it again as Holmes pushed a tally home off of a penalty corner.
Swallow then got in on the act, finishing the scoring when she got help from Holmes at 51:42.
The Beavers were in total control for most of the match, finishing with a 23-1 edge in shots and a 15-1 edge in penalty corners.
Kayla Costa (Watertown, Mass.) needed to make just one save to pick up the win, while Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.) took the loss for the Scarlet and White. Dani Michaud (Providence, R.I.) saw a significant amount of action in relief of Tinsman and made 11 saves.
Clark will return to action on Tuesday when they visit Anna Maria. Game time is a slated for 7:00 p.m.
