Box Score Paxton, Mass. – For the second time in as many weeks, Clark University was stunned in double overtime on the road to a non-conference foe. This time, the Cougars fell to host Anna Maria, 3-2 on Tuesday evening at AMCAT Field.
The loss for the Scarlet and White is their fourth in a row as they slip to 2-5 on the season. For the AMCATS, meanwhile, they see their record jump to 6-3 as they have now won four straight contests by a combined score of 11-2.
Nicole Denver (Springfield, Mass.) got Anna Maria on the board first in the game's 12th minute when she took a feed from Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine) for her sixth marker of the season.
Things stayed that way until Olivia Cotton (Northampton, Mass.) set up Lauren Mackey (Dublin, N.H.) for Mackey's first of the night at 48:01.
The AMCATS surged ahead again roughly ten minutes later when Dalbec went from playmaker to scorer, registering an unassisted tally at 59:37.
Clark appeared to be on the ropes but Alyssa Williams (New Sharon, Maine) connected with Mackey for her 26th career goal in the 65th minute.
After a scoreless first overtime, Kayla Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) hooked up with Kaitlin Moran (Leicester, Mass.) for the game-winning goal at 87:17.
Anna Maria actually controlled the stat sheet, recording a 23-12 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in penalty corners.
Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.) had another strong performance in the cage, turning aside a season-high 12 shots, just two off of her career-high in saves, which she also set against Anna Maria back in 2013.
Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) was excellent in net for the hosts, recording nine saves of her own en route to her sixth win of the season.
Clark is back in action on Saturday when they visit Regis College for a non-league affair at 11:00 AM while the AMCATS visit GNAC rival, St. Joe's (Maine) on Saturday as well.
