Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – In a battle of top 25 teams in the nation, No. 22 Clark women's soccer (3-1-0) dropped their first match of the season by a 4-1 margin to Tufts (2-0-0) in a non-conference match on Wednesday afternoon from Granger Field.
First-year Cassandra Trevino registered her first career goal early in the second half with an assist from junior Siobhan Lounsbury. Senior netminder Morgan Small ended the game with a season-high 10 saves and came one save short of her career-high she set against Curry in 2019.
How it Happened
- Small recorded her first save of the match in the ninth minute when Liz Reed of Tufts fired a shot on goal that was stopped and registered another save in the 11th minute on a shot attempt from Hannah Isenhart.
- The Jumbos took a 1-0 shortly after on a goal from Kylie Metcalf that was assisted by Ameer Margaux and created a few more chances after the goal, but Small again came up big for the Cougars with a pair of timely saves.
- After two more great saves from Small in the 28th and 32nd minute, Tufts pushed their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Melina McDevitt in the 43rd minute on a pass from Abbi Adler as the scarlet and white trailed by that margin at the half.
- The Cougars offense came out ready to attack early in the second half and cut the lead in half on a nice cross in the box from Lounsbury after stealing the ball from Tufts that found the foot of Trevino and the first-year beat the goalie right in the 49th minute.
- After another Small save on Reed, first-year Isabella Ramirez and sophomore Imani Salazar both recorded shots on target that were stopped by Hayley Bernstein.
- The Jumbos pushed the lead back to two goals in the 65th minute on a penalty shot goal from Maddie Pero that just beat Small to the left.
- Sophomore Anika Floeck then put a shot on goal in the 67th minute that was saved and Small recorded another save in the 70th, but Tufts added another goal on a shot from Ameer Margaux in the 70th minute and was the final score of the game.
