Iscandari Earns NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – Clark University men's basketball first-year Aliaun Iscandari earned NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week honors as announced by the league office on Monday morning.

This marks the second straight week in which Iscandari has earned Offensive Athlete of the Week and is the second Cougar to earn a NEWMAC accolade after sophomore Boluwasefe John received recognition earlier this year.

"Aliaun, and our team, had a great week with two NEWMAC wins," said head coach Tyler Simms. "Aliaun had a great mindset coming off a game with foul trouble, and responded with his best offensive game of the season and his young career. That shows high character and toughness. As always, these are team awards as well - as many of his baskets were assisted by his teammates, or they set great screens in order to get him open against very good defenses."

Iscandari (Hawthorne, Calif.) averaged 22.5 points per game as Clark went 2-0 on the week. The first-year delivered a breakout performance with a career-high 37 points on 12-of-16 shooting in Saturday's 90-67 win over MIT, while also contributing 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game to fuel the Cougars' undefeated week.

On the season, Iscandari is averaging 17.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.6 steals, and 2.5 assists, while shooting 49.6 percent from the floor. The Cougars will return to the court on Wednesday night when they travel across town to WPI for a contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
