An outstanding basketball player, George Vasil '51 was a four-year starter who played in each of his career games.

While an undergraduate, he broke Clark’s all-time scoring record with more than 700 career points. He was considered by other coaches and notably, the Boston Globe (February 1951) to be one of the best small college players in New England. Vasil was twice selected to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette All-City Basketball Team.

Following his graduation from Clark, Vasil went on to play semi-professional basketball.

He was a school teacher in Massachusetts for 28 years and was honored as the state Teacher of the Year in 1981.

Vasil also coached boys’ and girls' basketball locally for 18 years at both Sutton and Marlboro high schools. For years, he was on the faculty at St. Augustine High School (San Diego, Calif.), where he also served as the school's director of intramurals.

George Vasil passed away in February of 2009.
