Considered to be a great all-around athlete, Raymond Fleming '38 played baseball and basketball at Clark.

A pitcher and slick fielding first baseman, Fleming was a four-year player on the baseball team and captained the team his senior year. Defensively, he earned a career .990 fielding percentage, committing only two errors in 217 total chances, which still ranks among the highest in Clark’s 67 year baseball history.

Fleming also earned an impressive .323 career batting average, which includes 46 total hits, 10 doubles, four triples, one home run, and 23 runs batted in.

Fleming also was a three-year basketball player and as a senior was the team captain for the 1937-1938 season.

In addition to his athletic pursuits, Fleming was junior class vice president and he served as vice president of Gryphon Senior Honor Society.

After graduating from Clark, he played semi-professional baseball for the Norton Company located in Worcester. He later served as a Clark Alumni Council member from 1959-1961 and was the Alumni Association vice president from 1963-1964 and then president from 1964-1965.

Ray passed away in 1983 but accepting the Athletic Hall of Fame honor on his behalf was Ray's son, Rev. Raymond Fleming Jr., of Laguna Beach, Calif.
