Roland Gaudette was a member of the baseball and basketball teams for three years and a member of the soccer team for one year, serving as captain of both the baseball and basketball teams his senior year.

As a member of  the basketball team, Gaudette helped lead Clark to a 31-36 record, including a 12-4 record in 1961 under Clark legend, Russ Granger.

He returned in 1967 to become the head baseball and soccer coach. From 1967-1971, Gaudette built the soccer program into one of Clark’s most successful teams, finishing with a 26-9-8 record. He became the head basktball coach in 1969 and in two seasons led Clark to a 22-21 record.

From 1971-1978 Gaudette was the assistant basketball coach and head golf coach at UMass-Amherst, during which the basketball team received five bids to the National Invitational Tournament, while his golf teams were crowned New England Champions five times, ECAC Champions three times, and made three trips to the NCAA Golf Tournament.

Gaudette returned to Clark as an assistant to Wally Halas for two seasons (1982-83 and 1983-84) and helped guide the Cougars to the NCAA Division III Basketball Finals in 1983-84. In Gaudette’s two seasons as an assistant, the basketball program established an incredible 44-11 record (.800 winning percentage).

He has also coached basketball at Easthampton High School, Smith Academy (boys and girls), and West Springfield High School.

Gaudette was the recipient of the Fred Hebert Trophy in 1960 presented to the senior male athlete who has made a significant contribution to the intercollegiate athletic program and whose dedication and performance has enriched the tradition of Clark Athletics.
